WASHINGTON ― Now that Republicans have lost the House, we can finally bury the mysterious tax cut that President Donald Trump said would pass sometime around Election Day ― a pledge that perplexed virtually everyone else.
When Trump in October initially broached the prospect of a “major tax cut for middle-income people,” nobody in Congress or the White House could offer details on it. But after several days of speculation, Rep. Kevin Brady (R-Texas), the chairman of the House tax committee, said Republicans would only pass a new tax cut if they kept control of both congressional chambers.
